Firsts 18 def Mulgrave 5
The new year saw a turn of the tables for the Upwey 1sts. They came up against 3rd place Mulgrave in a must win game to keep the finals hopes alive and didn't they do it in style. With a final scoreline of 18-5 in upwey's favour the boys showed off their potential.
With a couple of changes to the line up including the coaches spot, pressure from the top of the line up came early with Hoppy and Pete both reaching base and eventually scoring to give the tigers the upper hand from the word go. With the tigers on top JJ went to the mound for the 1st start in 2008 and shut down the Rebels. Solid through 6 innings of work JJ left the game after striking out 6 and only giving up 4 runs, only to have Lucas come in and back him up. After a little bit of a shakey start Lucas found his feet and finished out the game surrendouring only one run.
The Tiger bats found some pop over the Christmas and new year break as they came alive on Sunday. Everyone in the line up having at least one hit and 3 players with multiple hits showed off the tiger offence. Stand outs with the bat again were Pete 4 hits, Leon 2 hits and Boo 2 hits and probably the most unluckiest guy was Adam who continues to smash the ball but right at the defence. With the RBI's being spread evenly throughout the 9 hitters the Tigers showed that the line up was one not to be rekoned with.
All in all the boys showed some spark after their time off, keeping them in touch with the rest of the pack. Next week sees them up against the mob from the other side of the bridge and will be looking to get revenge after going down to Werribee last time. With the return of some players from Jnr tournaments and family comitments the tigers line up should be at it's peak and hopefully be able to come away with the win.

Seconds 11 def Mulgrave 3
The 2's continued their fine form into the new year by beating last years runners up with ease. Molly got the nod for his first start in 2008 and never looked back. From the word go it was all Molly and Upwey. The line up proved to be to strong with the bat by producing runs early in the game jumping Mulgrave and the defence was almost flawless. With the new year came a new face and a welcome return to Swanno out due to injury and Kieren who had missed the first half also due to injury. Well it was like they hadn't missed a beat with thier bats still as hot as they were last year for the Tigers. Kieren put 3 hits beside his name along with a couple of RBI's and some good defence to go along with it all as well as Swanno posting a couple of knocks and some good hands at second base.
Molly proved too strong throwing the complete game, getting back some velocity and showing off his command of the strike zone. The hitting line up proved once again that they shouldn't be taken lightly posting another total of more then ten runs. With the win a good start to 2008 the boys still have a way to go as they share top of the table honours with Fitzroy. With 5 games to go the emphisis must be to continue the form of late and take it right through to the last week of the regular season. With the return of some players in the next week the boys will only become stronger and hopefully show off their true stripes.

Thirds 9 lost to Mulgrave 11
Fourths 0 lost to Mulgrave 9
Fifths 5 lost to St Kilda 15
This week we faced St Kilda who had recently been added to our division nicely filling up a bye. Basically we played well for three quarters of the game remaining competitive until their last inning when they scored eight runs.
Today loss can be basically summed up that we did not do a couple of fundamental things that you need to do to win in Division Four. Scoring a minimum of three runs in each innings and not throwing a lot of walks. If we had of done this the result would have been different. Having said that our fielding today was pretty solid all round.
Highlights
- Gooses great leap to catch a fly ball after running in to far.
- Two bomb Jones running a triple to score.
- Tim Annett going out a long way to get a pop fly from short.
- Leggy having to run almost 90 feet to tag out a very confused runner!
Hitting - Rob Jones 2, Bobby Simonton 2, Scott Legge 2 with singles to Gotschy (db), Tim Watson (db) and Goose.
RBI’s - Bobby Simonton 2, Scott Legge1 & Tim Watson 1
Next Week see us on the road trip to face one of the Doncaster’s and to see if we can put one of Tuties curve balls out of the park!
Cheers
The forty year old fat rookie.
