Seniors Round 13

19 January 2008

FIRSTS 11 def Werribee 1

The weekend saw the boys continue their form from last week and topple Werribee with ease. The second time in 2 weeks that the Tigers had won by a margin of 10 runs. Again Rowan took to the mound and was unstopable, through 6 innings of work he had good command of his pitches and of the Werribee bats as he only surrended 2 hits and one run. The bats again came alive in the first inning with 5 runs comming in, getting the boys off to a good start. From then on in the game was always in our favour. With Kieran stepping into second base due to Nicco being unavailable and the return of Kimbo, the line up was tossed around a little. However the sticks were hot with several hitters having multiple hits and extra bases were being taken all day with some aggressive base running. The boys even showed they can do it with two out, Keiran, Oxy and Boo all doubled with 2 outs back to back to back showing off the depth in the Tiger line up.

After Rowan's 6 solid innings Adrian was sent out to the hill with a comfortable lead and a chance to get some work in. He threw 1 1/3 innings giving up only 1 hit and getting some form back with the ball. With the score line getting toward the 10 run mark Jonesy got the ball with one out in the top of the 8th to finish out the remainder of the game.

SECONDS 14 def Werribee 4

The 2's again showed why they are on top of the table putting Werribee away with a comfortable win. The boys put on 14 runs in 6 innings with some good displays of hitting  comming right through the order. With Jono back in the line up and Scotty back from the u/18 Nationals where he stood out, the Tigers went at it. On the hill was Molly and again outstanding, throwing 6 complete innings and only allowing 4 runners to cross the plate. He dominated the Werribee line up and was backed up well in the field. The stand outs with the bat were Swanno smashing a couple of doubles and Scotty also having a couple of doubles. Run production came from all hitters, one through nine, with almost everyone having an RBI causing headaches for the opposition. With no weak links the damage was shown on the scoreboard once again.

There was a down side to the game however with Lucas having to leave to game after injuring his ankle pretty badly and will see him sit on the sidelines for a couple of weeks after he went back into 1st base and twisted it.

The boys keep on going about their business and will hopefully continue it when they come up against Sandy on Sunday.

FIFTHS 8 lost to Doncaster B 21
We ventured over to Doncaster to take on the team sitting second on the ladder in our section. This game was always going to be a tuff game for us to win and we also where missing four of our regulars from the line up.

We jumped out of the blocks in promising fashion by putting two runs on the board in the first innings by stringing four hits together though the “fat” part of the line up.

We where unlucky not to have scored but that’s baseball. We took the field and limited our opponents to one run in their first innings. This was due to a strike out and being able to gain the advantage out of an infield fly by turning it into a double play to retire the side.

In the middle part of the game we failed to follow up on our good start with the bat and when down in order for the next three innings with the exception of two hits in different innings. During this middle part of the game the defensive highlights where

In our final at bat we got up some momentum with six hits and a couple of walks strung together to put six runs on the board to add some respectability to the scoreline.

Thanks to David Simonton and Lachlan Mclean for helping out this week

Next Week the other Doncaster on the Back Diamond at the Tiger dome

The forty year old fat rookie.
